The flexible emergency float or lifeboat (1) is carried on board a ship, to be launched into the water in an emergency. It has a elongated keel (3) made of several rigid telescopic segments which supports a flexible superstructure which may consist of inflated chambers (2) made e.g. of rubberised fabric. The float is of covered construction, with a roof (22) supported in the centre by a pole or mast (17,18) made of telescopic metal sections covered by a flexible sleeve or grommet (20). There is an access hole (23) in the sidewall of the float. It is closed by flexible fingers (24) and a rubber band (25) to prevent water getting in.
