Each pivoting link (2,3) of the chain is formed by two long members (2a,3a) set alternately inside and out. Hinge pins (4) are welded to the outside members. The pin ends can protrude beyond the outside surfaces (3b) of the outer members, or can alternatively be flush with them. As a further alternative, the pin ends can be flush with the outer surfaces of the inner link members, being spot- or seam-welded to the inside surfaces of the outer members along their periphery. Welding can be by the capacitive-discharge, laser- or electron-ray method.
