The child security seat has a seat surface and a backrest which has an air inflated cushion (6) inside it to receive the head of a child sitting in the chair. The air cushion has at least one inflation valve (12), which self actuates when a set pressure in the cushion is exceeded, or is controlled by a signal. The inflation valve can have a large flow cross section to allow rapid venting of the air cushion.
