Expanding core holding roll of tape

The tapered reel for a roll of tape (13) is made of a number of lamellae (2). The lamellae are pivoted (2e) about axes (14) at their base ends so that they may swing outwards from their conical position to form a cylinder which firmly grips the inside surface of the reel of tape. A plug (4) fits into a conical aperture (2f) at the open end of the reel, to force the ends of the lamellae apart. The plug is fitted on the end of a rod moved by a piston-cylinder assembly (3) incorporating a compression coil spring (3e). The piston-cylinder assembly may be actuated by compressed air.
