A clutch control system comprises a control unit 13a which receives signals from various sensors, eg throttle position sensor 15, shift lever sensors 19a, 19b, tachometer sensor 17 and gas pedal sensor 31. These incoming signals are evaluated, in the control unit 13a, by a control program which calculates and determines the outgoing values based on a comparison and/or functions and/or mapping. Outgoing signals are relayed to an electric motor 12 which controls actuator 13b via gearing. The actuator 13b is connected to a hydraulic master cylinder 11 which operates the clutch 3 via master cylinder 10. When a different torque level is required, for example when a vehicle is heavily loaded and at rest on an incline, the clutch 3 is controlled so as to provide a higher torque than normal so that the vehicle is accelerated from rest. Alternatively, depending on the circumstances, the clutch 3 may be controlled to deliver a reduced torque and acceleration. The system/method may be used with a manual or an automatic transmission.
|
