Process for the manufacture of a honeycomb panel made of a carbon/carbon or carbon/ceramic composite and structures fabricated with such a panel

Producing a carbon/carbon or carbon/ceramic composite honeycomb panel involves: (a) forming a honeycomb support by pyrolysis of a honeycomb structure (1) of carbon fabric pre-impregnated with a thermosetting resin; (b) forming one or more skins (2, 3) by draping carbon fabrics pre-impregnated with thermosetting resin; (c) assembling the support and the skin(s) with an interposed carbon fabric pre-impregnated with a thermosetting resin; (d) simultaneously polymerising and compacting the assembly; (e) pyrolysing the assembly; and (f) densifying and increasing the cohesion of the assembly by chemical vapour phase infiltration (CVI). Also claimed is a wall structure consisting of a sandwich formed by the above method. Preferably, the thermosetting resin, used in steps (a), (b) and (c), is selected from phenolic, polyimide, furan and polycyanate resins.
