摘要 <p>PURPOSE:To decrease the propagation of error without increasing the redundancy by giving a strong error correction capability to a data inducing the propagation of a comparatively long error and reducing the data error correction capability not generating a long error propagation even when a propagation error is caused. CONSTITUTION:A data selector 32 arranges a PCM data not applying the forecasting in a DPCM data by forecasting as a reset data. A data selector 35 outputs a data block added with a single error correction code or a double error correction code at each data block. In case of a digital VTR, the entire picture is divided into 20 blocks and error correction and detection is applied while all picture element data in each block are used as one unit. As to the block as to left half of a picture at a location near a picture element group 51 sent as the PCM data, the double error correction code is added and as the right half block of the picture, the single error correction code is added. Thus, the error generation probability of picture elements located at the left half of the pattern is lower than that of the right half.</p>
