PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To restrain the fluttering of a valve, to maintain stability in the opening/closing operation, to stably reduce the exhaust noise under all operating conditions, and to maintain the output performance of an engine. SOLUTION: An exhaust silencer for an automobile is provided with an opening 13 formed in a baffle plate 7 inside a muffler, and a valve 15 which is turned around a turning shaft 14 so as to be opened or closed by the pressure of exhaust gas. The turning shaft 14 of the valve 15 is offset from the center of the valve 15 by a prescribed distance, and it is so constituted that the opening ratio of the valve surface on one side out of the two-divided surfaces divided by the valve turning shaft 14 is increased in accordance with the turning angle of the valve, while the opening ratio of the valve surface on the other side is made to be constant at a turning angle or more. |
