The present invention provides a casting positioning apparatus and a method, for positioning a casting in relation to an upper end of a manhole, which comprises an inner sleeve comprising a rigid hollow cylinder (52) having an annular flange (54) extending around the upper circumference (55) thereof. The diameter of the cylinder (52) is less than that of the manhole lid opening. An annular resilient rubber ring (60) or skirt whose inner diameter is slightly less than the outer diameter (58) of the inner sleeve (50) and whose outer diameter is greater than that of the manhole lid opening is stretched around the outer surface of the cylindrical inner sleeve (50). The lower end of the cylindrical inner sleeve (50) is inserted into the upper end of the manhole, and lowered until the lower surface (61) of the rubber ring (60) rests on the upper edge (42) of the manhole lid. Pressure is then applied downwardly on the flange (54) of the sleeve to push it down to the desired height and slope. The ring (60) is then tightened in the selected position with a tightening band (62) and the casting (5) is then mounted in position on the flange (54) of the inner sleeve (50). A cylindrical outer sleeve (30) is then placed around the casting (5) and concrete poured to fill the annular space between inner (50) and outer (30) sleeves to thereby secure the casting. |
