PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an efficient and highly precise method for detecting correction quantity by calculating a distance from a target line at each correcting point, determining anabolic a correcting quantity at each correcting point from a relation between a virtual and the prescribed target lines, and thereby shortening time for correction. SOLUTION: Displacement differences, d'(i), d"(i) and d'(i+1), d"(i+1), are determined which are from a target line at both ends of the correcting span of a work after correction. These displacement differences are reflected in the work shape X(K) before correction, so that a virtual target line A-B-C-D is determined. The work shape X'(K) after correction is determined by coinciding with the target line. For this purpose, on the basis of a calculation expression, the correction quantity is computed at each correcting point, P(i), P(i+1). The correction quantity D(i) at the point P(i) is D(i)=V(i)×W÷[4×P(i)], where V(i)=X'(i)+[X' (i+1)-X'(i)]÷[P(i+1)-P(i)], assuming W is the correcting span. Thus, the correction quantity is determined.
