PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the recording medium that has no groove in the region where pits are formed and is capable of being reproduced by using a conventional driving device intended for an optical disk in which a groove for pits is formed. SOLUTION: In this recording medium, pits 1 used for indicating information signals by the recessions and projections in the surface of a pitted region are formed. At this time, the depth (t1 ) and width (t2 ) of each of the pits 1 are adjusted to λ/(4n) to λ/(2n) and 0.3 to 0.6μm respectively, wherein (n) is the refractive index of a substrate of the recording medium and μ is the wavelength of light used for reproduction. This manufacture of the recording medium is particularly effective in forming pits in the read-only region of an optical disk which conforms to the ISO/IEC specification 13549, 13963 or 15041. |
