PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a Kerr type optical modulator, without being affected by an optical signal and the polarization of a pumping light beam injected into the modulator, and all optical type clock recovering device, whose operation is not affected by polarizing light, unnecessitating the adjustment of polarizing light, without responding to the ambient influence under the ordinary operating condition. SOLUTION: This modulator is composed of even sections, has an equivalent optical length and composed of four sections of polarization maintaining fibers T1, T2, T3, T4 optically connected by three splices E1, E2, E3 at three places. At a first and a third splices, the neutral propagation axis of the polarization maintaining fiber is rotated by 90 deg.. An optical demultiplexer/multiplexer and a mode converter connected to the former and including two polarization maintaining optical waveguides are inserted into the loop of a second splice. |
