<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To protect a battery for applying a current through a catalyst warming-up device by using a catalyst warming-up device for quickly activating a catalyst for the minimum time required. SOLUTION: A, catalyst temperature when an engine is started is estimated based on an estimated catalyst temperature when the engine is stopped, a catalyst cooling temperature for designating an estimated temperature change ratio of a catalyst per a unit time, and a detected engine stop time (S3), and, if the estimated catalyst temperature is lower than a catalyst activating temperature (S4), a current applying time through a heating-wire-type heater for heating the catalyst is calculated based on the variations in the estimated catalyst temperature and the catalyst activating temperature (S5). A current is applied through the heating wire type heater only during a calculated current applying time (S6 to S8). A catalyst warming-up which is thought to be clearly not necessary is prohibited and the catalyst is warmed up at the minimum to protect the battery.</p> |
