PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a charging apparatus which prevents the recharging operation of a secondary battery from being cut off early, which prevents the secondary battery from being over charged and by which the secondary battery can be charged optimally and fully, by a method wherein, when a fully charged state is detected erroneously, the secondary battery is recharged and, after a charging operation has been resumed, the operation of a change means which changes the battery voltage value of the secondary battery is stopped. SOLUTION: When a secondary battery B approaches a fully charged state, the battery voltage of the secondary battery B reaches its peak value so as to be lowered gradually after that. Then, a detection voltage becomes byΔV lower than a peak value stored inside a memory. A computing circuit 5 computes a temperature signal which is inputted from an A/D converter 3, and judges whether the detection of the fully charged state by the detection of theΔV is right or wrong. When the computing circuit 5 judges that the detection of the fully charged state is wrong, the rapid charging operation of the secondary battery B is resumed. In addition, the computing circuit 5 inhibits the detecting operation of the fully charged state by the detection of theΔV for a determined time (for the time in which a timer is inactive) from the start of the charging operation (or after the resumption of the charging operation) of the secondary battery B. As a result, the secondary battery B is charged fully and optimally.
