PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and device for eliminating a fault signal from a video signal by integrating a forward motion signal and a reverse motion signal into a common motion signal and introducing a coefficient used to control transversal filter processing from the common motion signal. SOLUTION: Differential stages 15, 16 of a motion detector shown in figure generate difference signals X, Y from three consecutive image signals A, B, C, and a coordinate transformer 19 transforms the difference signals X, Y via LPFs 17, 18 in terms of the Cartesian coordinates into polar coordinatesΦ, R. Then the polar coordinates signalsΦ, R are used to call corresponding to coefficients Ka1, Kc1 stored in a P-ROM 20 and the coefficients Ka1, Kc1 are processed by hysteresis devices 21, 22, and LPFs 23, 24 to obtain coefficients Ka, Kc to control a transversal filter. Thus, the device is realized, in which the S/N to eliminate a fault signal from a video signal is enhanced.
