DIGITAL IMAGE DECODER

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To store decoded image data in a memory having a small capacity. SOLUTION: Data decoded by a decoding section 101 are compressed by a compression section 102 and stored in a prediction display frame memory section 103. Then data required for decoding for other frames are expanded by an expansion A section 104 and fed to the decoding section 101. Then the display frame is read from the prediction display frame memory section 103, expanded at an expansion B section 105 and fed to a display device. Write/read to/from the prediction display frame memory section is controlled by an address control section 106. Since compressed data are stored in the prediction display frame memory section 103, the memory capacity is reduced.
