The pliers are of the type formed from two branches (12), each of which has a roughened surface (20), which is designed for lifting objects. The two branches are linked together, in such a way as to allow the two lifting surfaces to be moved towards each other, or away from each other. The lifting surfaces are formed by electro-chemical etching of part of the surface of the outer ends of the branches, or on the noses (18) of the branches, which may be angled to the main section of the branch. The surface treatment has an effect of increasing the thickness of the nose sections of the branches, in the direction of the opposing nose piece.
