PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lighting device in which a high-pressure discharge lamp can be restarted to be lighted even in the condition where pressure of enclosed matter inside the high pressure discharge lamp is high. SOLUTION: A first starting circuit 2a to generate a high-voltage pulse sufficient to cause dielectric breakdown of a high pressure discharge lamp, and a second starting circuit 2b to generate a high-voltage pulse sufficient to maintain discharge of the high pressure discharge lamp using an inductor in an stabilizer circuit part 1 are contained in a single starting circuit part to be connected. Two high-voltage pulse generation timings are synchronized with each other, and the two high-voltage pulses are combined with each other to be applied to the high pressure discharge lamp.
