PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a multiplexer in which occurrence of an error due to multiplexing processing is detected with a simple configuration by multiplexing input data to assemble a packet, extracting input data in the packet and comparing the data with input data before multiplexing so as to detect an error. SOLUTION: PES packet processing sections 11, 21, 31 and a TS/PS packet processing section 41 apply packet processing and multiplexing to received elementary stream ES and a packetized elementary stream PES to output a PES transport stream TS and a program stream PS. Comparator sections 13, 23, 33, 45-47 compare the ES, PES before packet processing stored by FIFO memories 12, 22, 32, 42-44 with outputs of the packet processing sections 11, 21, 31, 41. A control section 5 detects occurrence of an error by the packet processing sections 11, 21, 31, 41 based on the comparison result. |
