PICTURE PROCESSING METHOD

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To correct the aberration, rotation and variable magnification of a picture by a small arithmetic amount without using a specific mark. SOLUTION: A pattern extraction part 105 extracts a pattern in the range of a prescribed size from an inputted picture (103) and a same pattern extraction part 107 finds the same pattern as the pattern (109) of a reference picture. A corresponding point detection part 111 detects the centroid of the same pattern the inputted picture and the reference picture correspond to. A picture correction part 113 calculates the aberration between the centroid positions of the corresponding patterns and generates the corrected picture (115) of the inputted picture according to this correction expression. A character picture segmenting part 117 segments a character picture from the corrected picture based on the coordinate (119) of the character picture existing area of the reference picture and a character recognition part 121 character-recognizes this.
