PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce replenishment in development, to form an image having stable dot quality even by running processing, to prevent stain by silver sludge and t6 form a photographic image excellent in finish quality by processing a silver halide photosensitive material with a dihydroxybenzene developer contg. a specified amt. of a specified compd. as mother liquor and replenisher soln. while replenishing the developer by a specified amt. or less per unit area of the material. SOLUTION: A silver halide photosensitive material, is processed with a dihydroxybenzene developer contg. >=2×10<-3> mol/l at least one kind of compd. represented by the formula as mother liquor and replenisher soln. while replenishing the developer by <=130ml per 1m<2> of the material. In the formula, R1 is a substituent having a Hammett'sσp value of >=0.00. The compd. represented by the formula is effective in suppressing a change of dot image quality in the running processing of the photosensitive material and <=2×10<-3> mol/l of the compd. can suppress a change of dot image quality without considerably affecting the lowering of the photographic sensitivity even when the developer is replenished by <=130ml per 1m<2> of the material.
