PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To simply execute the discrimination of a characteristic of image data such as edge separation by using compressed data. SOLUTION: Input image data is given to an image separate section executing image area separation separating characters and patterns and edge separation discriminating an edge part and a non-edge part and to a gamma transformation section 32 applying processing to data. A gamma coefficient in the gamma conversion section 32 and a filter in a filter section 33 are decided and compression data of block coding generated by a coding decoding section 5 are used to generate an area signal by an area signal generating section 10, and it is outputted to a pseudo medium to one processing section 9 via a FIFO 11. Area data are data for each block consisting of n×n picture elements. Since the coded data are stored in a memory, the memory for image data having been used for generating a conventional area signal is not required, the cost is suppressed and the entire configuration is simplified. |
