PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject material having increasedγand not causing problem such as pressure blackening in rapid processing under slight replenishment by specifying the relation between the sensitivities of emulsion layers and incorporating a mercapto compd. into nonphotosensitive hydrophilic colloidal layers. SOLUTION: This sensitive material has silver halide emulsion layers and nonphotosensitive hydrophilic colloidal layers on both faces of the substrate. At the time of exposure from one side, the ratio (SA/SB) of the sensitivity SA of the emulsion layer on the exposure side to the sensitivity SB of the emulsion layer on the opposite side is <=4. The colloidal layers contain a mercapto compd. represented by the formula Z-SM (where Z is an N-contg. 5- or 6-membered heterocyclic group and M is H, an alkali metal atom or quat. ammonium).
