The lock (1) has a bolt (5) which is operated inside a housing by a slider (4). The latter can be moved roughly parallel to the lock plate by the bit of a key, or by a lug on a lock cylinder, and has a slit (14) which extends diagonally towards the plate. A spigot (15) on the bolt can engage in the slit, and the ends of the latter have notched positions (16,17) for the spigot when the bolt is fully extended or withdrawn. At least one further notched position (18) is arranged between these end positions, and has a sliding surface (19) which enables the bolt to be extended, and a blocking surface (20) in order to prevent it from being withdrawn.
