A laminated airfoil (10) for use in a high bypass engine. The airfoil (10) preferably has a large tip chord and is comprised of alternating layers of thin metallic foil (28) and elastomeric layers (30). The exterior surfaces of the airfoil (10) are comprised of a thin, metallic foil. The airfoil also has a metal sheath (20) secured to the leading edge (16). High strength metal members (26) extend through the dovetail root sections (14).
