A floor covering comprises a plurality of tread strips (11) and at least two spacer strips (15,16) of substantially rigid material arranged side-a-side between successive pairs of tread strips (15) with the pluralities of strips being secured together in side-a-side relationship by connecting wires (14) which pass through aligned apertures in the strips, at least one of said two spacer strips (15,16) comprising an upper wall (20) which in use lies substantially horizontally and a depending wall (22) connected to the upper wall, the apertures being provided in said depending wall, the upper wall having a longitudinally extending abutment edge (31,32) at that edge of the upper wall furthest from the associated depending wall (22) and said upper wall comprising localised deformation zones (33) at longitudinally spaced intervals along the length of the abutment edge where said localised zones (33) lie vertically displaced from surrounding material of said upper wall (20). The displaced zones inhibit nesting of the strips 15 and 16 and can provide drainage. |
