PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a large capacity battery by mixing a Li source material and a Ni source material in a specified molar ratio of Li/Ni and calcining the mixture in an inert gas-oxygen atmosphere to form a Li-Ni multiple oxide expressed by specified compsn. formula. SOLUTION: A Li compd. such as Li2 O and a Ni compd. such as NiO are mixed in a dry atmosphere by 2.0/1.0 to 2.5/1.0 molar ratio of Li/Ni. The mixture is formed into a specified shape and calcined in an inert gas-oxygen mixture gas flow at 400 to 750 deg.C for about 12 hours to obtain a Li-Ni multiple oxide expressed by Li2 NiOx+y , wherein y satisfies 0.0<y<0.3. In this multiple oxide, planer quadruple coordinate structures of NiO4 having common sides facing each other are connected in a one-dimensional chain, and oxygen atoms are arranged in each one-dimensional chain to form a pyramid-like structure of NiO5 . The planer quadruple coordinate structure of NiO4 has Ni-O two-dimensional planes bonded to each other commonly having the oxygen atoms as the top of pyramids. A nonwater-base secondary cell can be obtd. by using a positive pole containing the obtd. multiple oxide as an active material for the positive pole and a negative pole containing Li metal. |
