PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new piericidin derivative having a cytokine production- inhibiting action and effective for allergic diseases, autoimmune diseases, rejection symptoms accompanied by organ transplantation, etc. SOLUTION: This piericidin derivative is expressed by the formula (R is H, methyl) or its salt. The compound of the formula is obtained by culturing Streptomyces SP Q39071 (FERM P-15272) in a culture medium under an aerobic condition, extracting the compound from the culture product and then purifying the compound. The compound of the formula has an excellent inhibition action on the production of cytokines such as interleukin-2, interleukin-4, interleukin-5,γ-interferon, etc., in T cells. The compound of the formula can be processed into preparations by conventional methods. The compound of the formula is orally administered at a daily dose of 0.01-1,000mg/adult, and also administered at a dose of 0.001-10mg/kg/adult/time in parenteral administrations excluding the administrations for external uses, e.g. in an intravenous injection. An external use agent, e.g. an ointment containing the active ingredient in a concentration of 0.03-0.3% is coated on skin once to several times a day. |
