PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a product especially reduced in internal strain and excellent in surface appearance in a method for producing thermoplastic resin foam of which the cross section has a profile shape at a high speed. SOLUTION: A fiber reinforced thermoplastic resin sheet 15 is continuously shaped into a hollow object and a molding material composed of a foamable thermoplastic resin compsn. 30 containing a thermoplastic resin having no heat fusibility to the thermoplastic resin constituting the inner surface of the hollow object and a foaming agent is supplied into the hollow object while foamed under heating and shaped so as to have a profile cross section while allowing the hollow object to conform to an outer shape prescribing member by foaming pressure to obtain composite foam wherein the hollow object is filled with the foam. The hollow object part not thermally fused to the outer peripheral surface of the foam is peeled from the composite foam to obtain foam having a profile cross section.
