PRODUCTION OF BELLOWS-LIKE CONTINUOUS FOAM AND DIE THEREFOR

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a sufficient foaming magnification and produce a large-sized freely bendable bellows-shaped continuous foam wherein individual rod-shaped foams are cosely bonded and integrated. SOLUTION: An extruder 1 having a perforated plate 5 and a die 4 consisting of a flange 7 and a molding member 8 attached thereto successively from the extruder side is used. A food material or a raw material based on a food processing byproduct is plasticized by the extruder 1 and a plurality of rod-shaped foams 6 are extruded into a chamber of which the cross-sectional area formed by the flange 7 and the molding member 8 is larger than the total cross-sectional area of a plurality of the rod-shaped foams 6 from the extrusion holes 5a of the perforated plate 5 to be foamed by steam and subsequently passed through the molding opening 8a of the molding member 8 having a cross-sectional area smaller than the total cross-sectional area of a plurality of the rod-shaped foams 6 to be closely bonded and integrated mutually to form continuous foam 14a and a part of the peripheral surface of the extruded continuous foam 14a is brought into contact with a resistance member 10 to generate friction force and bent in a bellows shape to produce bellows-shaped continuous foam 14.
