PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prepare a leathery sheet with color feeling resembling that of natural leather by cladding an inorganic fine particle-incorporated resin composition layer to the surface of a fiber assembly base form impregnated with an elastic polymer. SOLUTION: Raw cotton of sea-island type fibers each made up of 6-nylon as island component and high-fluid low-density polystyrene as sea component is made into a web by cross lapping process followed by subjecting the web to needle punching and hot-calendering to obtain a smooth-surfaced nonwoven fabric. Thereafter, the nonwoven fabric is impregnated with a dimethylformamide solution of a polyurethane followed by wet coagulation, and the resultant nonwoven fabric is deprived of the sea component in hot toluene, thus forming the ultrafine fibrous web with a base form layer impregnated with the elastic polymer. Subsequently, the surface of the base form layer is cladded with a polyurethane resin layer 5-200μm thick prepared by blending 100 pts.wt. of a polyurethane resin with 5-200 pts.wt. of at least one kind of resin selected from the group consisting of polyolefin-, acrylic acid-, acrylonitrile- and cellulose sulfate-based resins and 5-250 pts.wt. of inorganic fine particles such as silicon oxide-based ones, thus obtaining the objective leathery sheet.
