PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To simply and very efficiently effect optical resolution of a racemic epoxide useful for production of intermediate of medicines by using an optically agtive host compound having a specific chemical structure. SOLUTION: A racemic epoxide is converted into a clathrate compound with an optically active bis-β-naphthol compound of the formula [X is a (substituted) 1-10C methylene chain]. The compound of the formula is prepared by, for example, allowing optically active bis-β-naphthol to react with sodium hydroxide to form a sodium alcoholate, then allowing the resultant alcoholate to react with an alkyldihalogen-substituted compound, and, when necessary, recrystallizing the product using a solvent such as toluene.
