PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a conveyance failure to be generated caused by excessive insertion of the tip of a sheet material, by moving a sheet material regulating member in the position to release the regulation of the tip of the sheet material in the rotation of a rotational body in the sheet material conveying direction, and returning it to the initial position to regulate the sheet material tip in the rotation in the reverse direction. SOLUTION: When conveyance of documents G is started, a stopper 7h is moved in the position to release the regulation of the tips of the documents G by a projecting part 7dl of a feeding roller 7d, and the documents G on a platen table 4a are separated and fed one by one by a separating roller 7a and a spare pressure-contact arm in pressure-contact with it. After the feeding roller 7d to be driven and rotated by being brought in pressure-contact with a supplying roller 7c is rotated in the opposite direction (shown by an arrow (a)) to the document conveying direction, it is rotated in the document conveying direction (shown by an arrow (b)), rotated in the opposite direction (shown by an arrow (c)) to the document conveying direction, and made in the waiting state. Accordingly, the feeding roller 7d and the stopper 7h are reliably returned in the initial position (b).
