PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce a new collagenase inhibitor FO-5904 useful as an anti- rheumatics, an anti-inflammatory agent, an anticancer agent, an antiviral agent for an infectious disease, etc., by culturing a microorganism belonging to genus Aspergillus and having a productivity of a collagenase inhibitor FO-5904 in a culture medium. SOLUTION: This new collagenase inhibitor FO-5904 has following physicochemical properties: the description is a yellow powder; the molecular weight is 289 (M+H, measured by a fast atom bombardment mass spectrometry); the molecular formula is C15 H12 O6 ; the melting point is 180 deg.C (degradation); the specific rotation is [α]D<20> -0.4 deg. [(c)=1.0, in ethanol]; the solubility in a solvent is soluble in methanol, ethanol, ethyl acetate and dimethyl sulfoxide and slightly soluble in water, a hexane, acetone and chloroform; the color reactions are positive in a sulfuric acid test and negative in ninhydrin and Dragendorff tests and the classification into basic, natural or acidic materials is an acidic material. The collagenase inhibitor is obtained by culturing a microorganism belonging to genus Aspergillus and having a productivity of the collagenase inhibitor FO-5904, [e.g. Aspergillus niger-FO-5904 (FERM P-15397)]. |
