PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To eliminate the possibilities that a meniscus which is once recovered would recede with the release of a cap by providing a means for generating a pressure which generates a pressure in the cap covering an orifice face under a state that the means comes into close contact with the tip of an ink jet head, and making it possible to control the internal pressure of the cap with the help of a pressure control means. SOLUTION: If a microprocessor gives an instruction for ink suction operation to a spacing motor control part, a carriage with a mounted ink jet head 11 is transferred to a home position, so that the carriage is faced opposite to a cap 15. After that, the cap 15 is driven forward to set itself into close contact with the ink jet head 11. Consequently, the face 11a of an orifice is covered, resulting in the hermetical sealing of the interior of the cap 15. Next, the internal pressure of the cap 15 is turned negative by rotating a suction pump with the drive of a pump motor to recover a meniscus. Later, the operation enters a step to recover an atmospheric pressure after the lapse of a set time, the suction pump is reversed and the internal pressure of the cap 15 is now returned to the atmospheric pressure. |
