PRODUCTION OF BASE FABRIC FOR ARTIFICIAL LEATHER

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily produce the subject lightweight base fabric having leathery touch feeling excellent in air permeability and elastic recovery. SOLUTION: (1) At least two kinds of web each essentially comprising (i) conjugate short fibers each made up on an inelastic polymer and an elastic polymer 30-120±C lower in melting point than the inelastic polymer and (ii) inelastic highly shrinkable short fibers and differing in the blend rate of the conjugate short fibers from each other are laminated with each other. (2) The resultant laminate is subjected to interlacing and shrinking treatments. (3) The laminate thus treated is hot-pressed at a temperature lower than the melting point of the inelastic polymer. And (4) such a treatment as to provide the surface of at least the inelastic highly shrinkable short fibers with a poorly adhesive processing agent is conducted at any stage prior to carrying out the above hot-pressing treatment, thus obtaining the objective base fabric for artificial leathers.
