The invention pertains to the metallurgy of non-ferrous metals and alloys. In order to obtain aluminium-silicon alloys in a form suitable for subsequent use, silicon-containing compounds are added to an aluminium melt which is then made to absorb hydrogen, an additive is introduced at a temperature of not less than 750 °C, the melt is allowed to stand for a time and the cycle is repeated. Quartz sand or crystalline silicon is used as the silicon-containing compound, while the additive used comprises an asbestos wad wetted in a water-graphite suspension, slags from silumin production, boric acid, aluminium hydroxide and titanium. Absorption of hydrogen is achieved either by the introduction of additives or with steam. The reaction mixture is allowed to stand for 20-40 minutes, the slag is removed and the metal is poured.
|
