<p>The system (10) provides a way to use a single RF channel in a cellular, RF meter reading system (10). In order to avoid adjacent cell (12, 14) concentrator (50, 52) interference while reducing the overall time required to perform repetitive tasks such as meter reading (Fig. 6) and performing load survey reads (Fig. 7), the system has each of the concentrators (50) send out a general command signal to all of the meter interface units (54, 56) ('MIUs') in its cell (12), and the MIUs (54, 56) then each send back their data in turn. In order to accomplish that result, the MIUs (54, 56) in each cell (12) are programmed to transmit a preset time period (different for each MIU in a particular cell) following receipt of the general command requesting data.</p> |
