Ornament application and apparatus

Films, foil, bonded ornaments etc. are laid on a substrate (2) and together with this placed on a support with a flexible rubber or PTFE bearer (25) 0.5-4 mm thick and pressed to the substrate in a space (19) pumped down (23) via channels (20). The film etc. elements are fixed to the substrate by an electrical or infra-red heater (7) or HF head to produce a temperature of 200 degrees C. Perforations evenly spaced at right angles to one another are provided right along the channel and the substrate has it own surface-normal edge (18) which serves also to demarcate the space and is made of rubber or plastics etc. to act as seal so that the heater when installed gives the cover part of the unit. A permeable membrane or film lies between substrate and applied element e.g. pressure transfers. A perforated sheet of metal can be inserted between substrate and membrane.
