- Difluorovinyl 4-substituted cyclohexyl ethers of formula (I) are new; in which R = alk(en)yl with /} 12 carbon (C) atoms, in which 1 or more methylene (CH2) group may be replaced by oxygen (-O-), difluoromethylene (-CF2-) or ethenylene (-CH=CH-) or 1 or 2 CH group may be replaced by CF, without adjacent O atoms; ring A = 1,4-cyclohexylene, 1,4-cyclohexenylene or 1,4-phenylene, optionally mono- or di-substituted by fluorine (F); X = hydrogen (H) or F; m = 0 or 1. Also claimed are liquid crystalline (LC) media containing >= 2 LC components, >= 1 of which is (I); and electro-optical displays containing a medium of this type.
