Biological treatment process treats effluent air

A micro-biological process cleans effluent air carrying a load of water-soluble and/or water-insoluble organic and/or inorganic pollutants. The air is discharged continually or intermittently, and bears a varying pollution load. The novelty of the process is that the air flows through a treatment assembly which incorporates in sequence: (a) an active carbon granule adsorption unit whose volume is 0.25-0.75 times that of the bio-reactor volume; (b) a washer operated in contra-flow to the flow of effluent air, the water in the washer is also used to moisten the bio-reactor; (c) a heat exchanger by means of which the air temperature is adjusted to that of the bio-reactor; and (d) a bio-catalytic converter which takes up /- 50%-90% of the bio-reactor volume, and has high adsorption performance and good growing conditions for micro-organisms.
