Carton connections via pallet deck and underlying plug tool

A load sleeve (2) is releasably held by clamp spring to the top of the pallet deck (1) and a clamping sleeve (3) on the underside of the deck is also spring-clamped to this (1) releasably and in line with the load sleeve (2). A cutting punch (4) is powered up through the clamp sleeve (3) and deck to form rosette-shaped tabs so a power cylinder (5) in line with sleeve (3) can carry this through the tab-cut area and into the sleeve (2) above to clamp the two sleeves together between the tabs. The tool (4) cutting faces are concave and fitted out with a star-pattern of regular cutting edges which should be randomly serrated or notched etc, or again the cutting edges undulate or run straight. The tool is fitted with straight cutters to be raised up through the slots in the cover of the cylinder for the cutting operation.
