The dc voltage regulator has a dc supply generated by a rectifier circuit 3 coupled to the mains and with a capacitor Czk as an intermediate circuit. The load ZL is connected via a switch S1 and in parallel to the load is a series circuit consisting of a diode D1, auxiliary switch S2 and a resistor RE. The first switch S1 can be an IGBT device and the second switch a thyristor.
