PURPOSE:To produce the title fiber aggregate having excellent handleability by adding a sol-like caking agent to a liq. dielectric, suspending fibers in the mixture, injecting the suspension into an electric field to electrostatically orient and bridge the fibers, settling, and accumulating the fibers. CONSTITUTION:A sol-like caking agent such as propanol silica sol with an insulating solvent such as propanol soluble in the liq. dielectric such as freon 113 as the dispersion medium is diluted with the same solvent, and the soln. is added to the liq. dielectric in a agitated vessel 17. Fibers such as staple fibers and whisker are dispersed and suspended in the liq. mixture. The fiber suspension is transferred into an orientation vessel 1 wherein a paper filter 10 and a ceramic filter 11 are layered on the bottom. An electric field is formed between the positive and negative electrodes 13 and 14 by a voltage impressing device 15. As a result, the fibers in the suspension are electrostatically oriented, and bridged. The oriented and bridged fibers are successively settled to form a fiber aggregate 4. |
