Refrigerator evaporator (71) passages (72,73) form a serpentine tube held against a flat plate (711) by intermittent welds (713). A shallow compartment (74), formed by a dished plate peripherally welded to the first, contains e.g. a water/alcohol mixture (710), constituting a thermal accumulator. The compressor cuts in at the evaporator's maximum operating temperature, reducing the temperature till phase change begins in the eutectic mixture. Temperature remains constant, close to the required air temperature during the change. On completion, the compressor stops. After a phase reversal, at the same temperature, maximum temperature is regained. Other configurations of the refrigerant passages and mixture container, e.g. as concentric tubes are described.
|
