A telemetry method for a metal structure (19) protected from oxidation by current tapping (1, 2). The method uses the structure (19) itself as the medium for data transmission from at least one transmitter connected to the structure, said data being recognised by a receiver (4, 5, 6, 7) connected to another part of the structure (19). Ground connections (16) are used to achieve a positive potential difference with the protected structure (19). The power of the current tapping station (1, 2) and said positive potential difference between at least one of said ground connections (16) and the metal structure (19) are used to inject a variable current (I) modulated by said transmitter depending on the data to be transmitted through the structure (19). The resulting current variations are measured by the receiver and used to determine the data picked up and transmitted by the transmitter. As said transmitter is self-contained, it may be placed anywhere on the structure (19). |
