PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sealed type alkaline storage battery having a long lifetime by setting a carbon ratio of organic substances contained in a nickel electrode less than a specific value with respect to a design charging reserve capacity of a negative electrode. SOLUTION: A nickel electrode contains organic substances, a carbon ratio of which is less than 0.112g/Ah with respect to a design charging reserve capacity of a negative electrode. The organic substances are one or more kinds selected from a group consisting of carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC), methyl cellulose(MC) and polyethylene oxide(PEO). An upper limit of a concentration of a thickener is determined on the basis of a discharging reserve capacity of the negative electrode and a quantity of carbon contained in the thickener, thus preventing a decrease in charging reserve capacity. If a quantity of carbon contained in a positive electrode is 0.112g/Ah or more with respect to the design charging reserve capacity of the negative electrode, the charging reserve may be dissipated. |
