PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a navigation apparatus by which the position of an own vehicle can be specified properly by a method wherein a position in a map is designated, a line segment based on sequentially designated points is generated and the line segment is stored as a new road. SOLUTION: By making use of sensors 11, 12 and an external storage device 13, a computer 14 corrects the present position of an own vehicle so as to be situated on a road, and the present position is displayed by an image display device 16 together with a map. In addition, by using a position setting device 15, the computer 14 drawns a line segment on a map displayed on the image display device 16 in such a way that the designation of a position is repeated. The drawn line segment and original map information are related as the connecting relationship between a crossing and a road so as to be stored in a new storage region in the external storage device 13. Then, after that, additional information which is stored in the new storage region together with the original map information is read out and used as map information form the external storage device 13. |
