PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To readily and economically hydrocrack heavy oils by suppressing the deterioration of a catalyst by removing an amount of coke within a specific range to a coke adsorber at a first stage of the hydrocracking and performing a second stage of hydrocracking by specific two kinds of catalysts. SOLUTION: (A) Heavy oils are heat-decomposed together with a coke adsorber in the presence of hydrogen and resultant coke precursor and coke in total amount of 2-10wt.% based on a raw material oil are adsorbed onto the coke adsorber, then removed. Preferably, the coke adsorber comprises a carbon material such as brown coal or brown coal char and an iron compound such as iron sulfide or iron oxide, and exists in a merely blended state in the heavy oils. Then, (B) almost all amount of the heat-decomposed the oil after the process A is heat-decomposed in the presence of activated carbon having the characters of 40-85% MCH conversion percentage, 800-1,000m<2> /g specific surface area, 0.7-1.4cm<3> /g pore volume, >=70% volume of mesopore of 20-500Åand 30-60Åaverage core diameter, an iron compound and hydrogen. |
