PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal element which holds a liquid crystal between a pair of substrates and is improved in switching characteristics of the liquid crystal by restraining generation of reverse inversion domain from members arranged in spot from between a pair of the substrates exceptionally at the time of driving, preventing flickering caused by the domain. SOLUTION: In the liquid crystal element, a first substrate 2 having an orientation control layer 4a subjected top an uniaxial orientation treatment and a second substrate 2 having an orientation control layer 4b not subjected to the uniaxial orientation treatment are disposed to face each other with the orientation control layers as facing surfaces via a sealing member 10 arranged at peripheral parts of the substrates, spacer beads 5 scatted in spot form and in contact with orientation control layers 4a, 4b of both substrates in a region surrounded by the sealing member 10 and the liquid crystal 1. In this case, the spacer beads 5 scattered in spot form are surface-treated by a material constituting the orientation control layer 4b not subjected to the uniaxial orientation treatment. |
